Major easing of restrictions will open Queensland for Queenslanders
If you have been asked to appear before the Queensland Magistrates Court for a hearing, know that the timing of this legal appointment is not set in stone. The first court date, called the notice to appear, offers the opportunity for both sides to negotiate a compromise, or to list the matter for trial before a judge. However, with a good reason and if you follow the proper legal procedure, you can apply for your court date to be adjourned to another time that better suits you.
Before beginning this process, you need to ensure that you understand how and for what reasons you can adjourn your hearing by reading our guide. On attending the first court date appointed by the Magistrates Court, an adjournment is an option available to both prosecutors and the defendant allowing them to defer the initial hearing.

For more information, see the fact sheets General tenancy agreements or Moveable dwelling tenancy agreements. Rent can not be increased unless there has been at least six months since the current amount of rent became payable by the tenant, even if it is between two separate agreements. If you do not extend or sign a new fixed term agreement, a periodic agreement automatically comes into place. The periodic agreement continues under the same terms that applied to the fixed term agreement except for the end date.
Tenants are able to negotiate the terms of the proposed new agreement before they sign it. If dispute resolution is unsuccessful, they can apply to the Tribunal within 30 days after signing the new agreement to have the significant change reviewed. If at least one of the original tenants continues in a new tenancy agreement for the same premises, the rules about limits on rent increases and disputing significant changes between agreements still apply. If the matter is still unresolved, an application may be made to the Tribunal for an order about the dispute.
